Is it best to register with Buma or Stemra?
If you have composed a piece of music or have written some lyrics, and the music will be made available to the public or will be duplicated, it is a good idea to register with Buma/Stemra. Buma handles music made available to the public (on radio, TV, internet, or a performance) and Stemra is concerned with the replication of music (e.g. on a CD or DVD). If you are unsure, contact us and we will be happy to advise you.
Which other bodies should I register with?
If you also play music, it is advisable to register with SENA.
Don’t forget to register works on which you have collaborated. You can do this by registering the work with the tax office (registration and succession department) or digitally at the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property.
