If you wish to use someone else’s music, you must pay a remuneration. The amount you pay depends on the situation. Online licensing tells you exactly how much. You do not just calculate the costs of your music use – you also take care of the payment straight away. Simply, from your PC.

How does online licensing work?

If you are a new user, you register on the Buma/Stemra website, at the bottom of this page. You enter your details, your username and your password. You will receive a confirmation by e-mail. You can use your username and password to log in to your personal page. You can calculate the licence from there and start the payment process. You will receive an invoice and licence by e mail and a bank giro form by post for the payment. You can also see a summary of your licences online.

Who is online licensing for?

You can use online licensing for various sorts of music use:

• In sales areas – Do you have a sales area (other than a supermarket or department store) where music is played? If so, you can pay the license online for an unlimited period. You can also terminate the licence again online.
• For webcasting – If you transmit live music over the Internet, as a webcaster you can pay the licence online for an unlimited period. You can also terminate the licence again online.
• For independent productions – Are you releasing a CD, though you are not a professional producer? If so, this is an independent production and you can arrange your licence for this production online.
• NEW!  For audiovisual productions – Have you created a production with a combination of audio and visual elements? This is deemed to be an audiovisual production and you can arrange your licence for it online.
