Buma/Stemra represents the interests of music authors and publishers in the Netherlands. There are other organisations that deal with copyright, e.g. for photographs and audiovisual work. The ‘neighbouring rights’ that performing artists have on their performances of other people’s works are also protected in the Netherlands.
Rights organisations
Buma/Stemra represents the interests of music authors and publishers in the Netherlands. We ensure that they receive their remunerations under music copyright law for the use of their creations. However, there are other organisations that concern themselves with copyright and neighbouring rights:
- Stichting Beeldrecht (plastic, graphic and photographic rights foundation): grants permission for the reproduction of visual works, e.g. in books or on cards and posters.
- BREIN (foundation for protecting rights in the entertainment industry in the Netherlands): acts on behalf of authors, performing artists, publishers, producers and distributors against infringements of copyright and neighbouring rights.
- Stichting Burafo (foundation for protecting and enforcing photographic rights): protects and enforces the rights of the authors of photographs.
- Cedar (service centre for copyright and related rights): supports a large number of rights organisations in their work.
- Stichting Foto Anoniem (anonymous photo foundation): helps trace anonymous photographers when their work is used.
